Community Service

It is OK to take information on the Community Service form, but please note to the person that I will not call back unless I have hours to give. There is a note on the bottom of each form that should be pointed out to them.

I keep the requests on file for a while (in my phone stand) and other department heads may use the contact information.

Energy Teens and Teen Interns

We are having an end-of-summer pizza party for the Energy teens & teen interns on Wednesday, August 1 from 4-5pm. Debbie sent postcards to the teens asking them to RSVP by emailing Heather or calling the library. If any of the teens do RSVP by phone, please take down their name & yes/no response & leave it for Heather at her desk.

At the party, we will be giving the teens a certificate which states their completed hours. If they cannot come to the party, let them know that they can pick up their certificates at the reference desk on or after August 1st. Also, if they need a letter (for Honor Society, CCD, etc.), we can provide this for them as well.

Thanks! (Heather)

Dog Days of Summmer

In celebration of another successful summer
reading program, July 21st will kick off
“Dog Days of Summer”.

Staff is asked to bring in a photo of your favorite pooch
(it doesn’t have to be yours) (or maybe you have a cat or other pet)
to post in the kitchen for all to see!
They say people look like their dogs…we’ll have to see if that’s true!

Also, it would be fun to have a give-away for the staff….
if we had something to give away!
If you have any ideas, please see Patti. “Dog Days of Summer” will run from
Saturday, July 21st – Monday, July 30th.

Stories in the Park with the bookmobile

Our first day out in the parks was fun and we had a turnout of 50 people.

Just so you know, our second session is coming up next Thursday, July 26th. The theme is "Bark in the Park" focusing on dogs.

The third session is about crocodiles and alligators called, "Crikey! Let's Read!" and is scheduled for Thursday, August 9th.

There should be sign up sheets for the remaining days.

P.S. Patti came up with those creative titles!

Bookmobile Summer Reading Logs

Hi!

Due to the infrequency of bookmobile stops, you may find that some patrons who are signed up for the bookmobile's summer reading program will be dropping their book logs off at the library. Please accept these book logs through July 21st. I plan to hang an envelope on the cork strip (but haven't done it yet, oops,) in the interum, please put the book logs on JodyO's desk.

Thanks for your help!!!!

Zoo Pass Confusion

When people are asking for more than one pass they probably don't realize that 8 people & 2 cars can go on one of the passes that we have.
If they still want more that one, the rule is one per family.

Internet Approval / Special Circumstances

For patrons who do not have library cards, do not live in Illinois or the United States...

  • An acceptable form of ID must be shown (i.e. drivers license or passport)
  • An Internet Use Application must be filled out. [Approval for Juveniles must parent or guardian's information also.]
  • We will create a file for these and keep them for 6 months.

DISCHARGING ITEMS

aka CHECKING ITEMS IN

Be extra careful!
Just now a book was found on the shelf not checked in (discharged).

The most embarrassing part is that the patron checking out had returned the book yesterday and at the same time a patron (who just took it off the shelf) brought it to the desk at the same time.

One way to avoid this is to watch the discharge screen to make sure the items title comes up when scanned.
